Exercise and Mental Health

1 Corinthians 6:19 “Don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and who was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourselves but to God”

Physical health is important. Those who suffer from depression may find it hard to be in good physical health due to lack of motivation. This understandable in my mind because I have been there.

One thing I did was force myself to lose weight. I tried and tried for a long time to make myself get up and do something about my weight problem, but I couldn’t find the strength or energy to do it. After the battle of walking up a hill one day I decided it was time.

I started slow at first, trying to force myself to go for walks and lift some weights. After that I started to feel better so I walked longer and farther. I began including sit-ups and push-ups in my daily routine and before I knew it I was losing weight and feeling better.

During this time my depression was less and I had more energy and I enjoyed feeling this way. Of course over the winter I began packing some of the weight back on but I do plan on being more active again now that spring has arrived. I found that by forcing myself to workout my motivation began to come more naturally. I even craved the workout and felt really awful if I missed it. Now that warmer weather has arrived I will try to find that motivation all over again.

3 John 1:2 “My dear friend, I pray that everything may go well with you and that you may be in good health—as I know you are well in spirit.”
