Mental Health Awareness Month

Hello dear readers. I was doing a little surfing this morning (Web Surfing) and noticed that Burger King has taken a huge step in promoting mental health awareness. The King has begun a month long campaign prompting its “Unhappy Meals” to help raise awareness for mental health.

Now normally I wouldn’t think much of this type of thing being that some may feel by calling them “Unhappy Meals” its kind of disrespectful but truthfully I like it. I feel like Burger King has taken a step forward in helping raise awareness for mental health. The “Unhappy Meal” will surely draw attention to the chain for next month and make individuals that aren’t aware of the months meaning realize mental health is in fact a serious issue.

There are five different “Unhappy Meal” box options that correspond to different moods: Pissed Meal (mad), Blue Meal (sad), Salty Meal (bitter), YAAAS Meal (excited), and DGAF Meal (Don’t give a f***). By expressing your choices Burger King said that you can still have it your way and advise that it’s ok to “not be happy all the time”.

In a way I feel that this could be a shot at the famous “happy Meal” from McDonalds but I won’t let that stop me from giving a huge shout out to the King for reminding us that mental illness needs to be brought out of the shadows and made more mainstream. People should feel comfortable addressing their mental health issues and not be afraid of the stigma.
